VIB (Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie) is a non-profit research institute in Flanders, Belgium, dedicated to advancing life sciences through pioneering research, technology transfer, and societal engagement. Founded in 1995, VIB focuses on conducting groundbreaking biomolecular research for scientific and societal enrichment. The organization is committed to translating research outcomes into viable business ventures, allocating a significant portion of its budget to technology transfer. Furthermore, VIB aims to disseminate scientific knowledge to the general public and fosters collaboration and innovation by integrating researchers into existing departments across six Flemish universities. VIB's strategic goals include pioneering strategic basic research, implementing a robust technology transfer policy for consumer and patient benefit, and disseminating scientific knowledge to the general public. VIB's research is centered around understanding both normal and pathological cellular and organismal processes. This research spans humans, plants, and microorganisms. VIB also contributes to European research excellence as a founding member of EU-LIFE, an alliance of leading European life sciences research institutes. The leadership includes Christine Durinx and Jérôme Van Biervliet, with Ajit Shetty steering the board of directors.
