About

Charles Thoma is the Managing Partner and founder of Cognitive Corporate Finance. He began his career with KPMG’s Corporate Strategy group in London in 1993, advising European companies on international expansion and corporate development. In 1999, he helped establish KPMG’s Strategy group in Paris. In 2000, he moved to KPMG’s Restructuring group, later Kroll Talbot Hughes, advising corporations, investment banks, and PE houses on distressed situations. He worked with OCP, a Moroccan mining group, on restructuring its balance sheet and addressing issues with subsidiaries. He also worked on operational restructuring and bankruptcy projects, including crisis management for Gate Gourmet and assisting with Swiss Air’s exit from AOM, Air Liberté, and Air Littoral. In 2008, he joined Alvarez & Marsal, leading crisis management for Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. entities during Chapter 11 proceedings, including selling Banque Lehman Brothers and Lehman Brothers Asset Management France and Italy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion. He is fluent in French, English, and Spanish.
